Memoranda
of Understanding
Consistent with State law, the County
of Santa Barbara negotiates with recognized employee
organizations regarding wages, hours
and other terms and conditions of employment. If an agreement
is reached through this collective bargaining process,
it is memorialized in a “Memorandum of Understanding” which
becomes a binding contract between the parties once it
is ratified by the organization membership and the County
Board
of Supervisors.
The County has current memoranda of understanding with
all nine of the recognized
employee organizations that
represent County employees. These memoranda of understanding
provide for various terms and conditions of employment
for the employees subject to the agreement, including salary
adjustments and other forms of compensation, health insurance,
retirement, paid leave, etc.
In addition to memoranda of understanding which pertain
to employees who are represented by a recognized employee
organization, this site provides the Board of Supervisors’ resolution
which provides for terms and conditions of employment for
unrepresented executive, management and confidential employees.
The County’s personnel rules are published
separately from our memoranda of understanding, and are
available
on this web site under Civil
Service Rules.
