Exam Information

EXAMINATIONS AND SELECTION PROCEDURES

The selection procedure for each recruitment will be stated on the recruitment bulletin. Each procedure is designed to test your knowledge, skills, and ability to perform that particular job. This may include one or a combination of several exams to rank applicants. The following is a list of the most commonly used types of exams:

Application Screening for minimum requirements.
Application Ranking. Candidates’ final score and rank on the eligibility list will be determined by the information provided on their application.
Supplemental Questionnaires may require you to detail job-related experience and education in a variety of formats, including: essay, check-boxes, fill-in-the-blank, and short answer. Supplemental questionnaires must be submitted with your application. The questionnaire may be used to determine your rank on the list, or to screen for the most highly qualified candidates, who are then tested further.
Written Exams may include multiple-choice, true-false, or matching questions.
Performance Exams assess your ability to perform the necessary physical and/or psychomotor skills of the job. These exams may simulate tasks you would be required to perform on the job, such as driving a truck or running a certain distance.
Oral Exams involve two or more subject matter experts as raters who use a standardized and structured interview format.

Applicants with Disabilities:

The Human Resources Department will make reasonable efforts in the examination process to accommodate applicants with disabilities. Please contact the Department at the time of application so that testing arrangements can be made.

HOW LONG BEFORE I HEAR ABOUT TEST RESULTS?

Usually, candidates are notified of the results of their examination within two to three weeks of the examination. Notification will be by U.S. mail or e-mail.
